MODULE 2, HEALTHY LIFESTYLES - Nutrition, OPTION C
Task
Option C: Re-vamp some old classic recipes
Sometimes eating healthy is not about elimination, but rather substitution. Write out the recipe of one of your favourite dishes that may not be the healthiest. This may require you to call a favourite restaurant or reach out to parents if you don’t know how.
Next, research alternative recipes or substitutions for unhealthy ingredients and create a new, healthier recipe.
Example: Chocolate Chip Cookies
Alternative: Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Chocolate chip cookies
Swap out sugar for apple sauce, butter with vegetable or coconut oil, bleached white flour for oat flour and milk chocolate chips for dark chocolate chips. Sprinkle with a touch of sea salt!
Assemble these new healthy recipe (s) into an attractive cookbook. Your recipe(s) should include a name, ingredient list with measurements, and cooking instructions. If possible, include a photo of your creation.

My Post:
Here is the recipe I re-vamped.
My mom always made spaghetti and meat sauce with ground beef, a can of Prego tomato sauce and white pasta. On the side, we'd have some cheesy garlic bread.
Since learning about some of the nutrition facts, I've decided to modify the recipe to make it healthier.
Modifications Include:
Adding more veggies to the recipe, and sauteeing them in olive oil instead of butter
Using Spaghetti Squash instead of white pasta (whole wheat pasta works too!)
Using canned tomatoes instead of sauce from a can
Using extra lean ground beef or ground chicken instead of regular full fat beef
Here is the finished recipe book!
